About the Lodge

The Lodge was formed in London and was consecrated on the 4th January 1962.  Our 'Mother Lodge', (the Lodge which sponsored the formation of More Majorum) is Rectitude Secundus Lodge No.6778.  More Majorum Lodge met in London until 1994 when it transferred to the Masonic Province of Hampshire & Isle of Wight.  It found its new home in Farnborough where it continues to meet to this day.

The Lodge has always hovered around the 25 members level but despite the low numbers (for a Provincial Lodge) it is a healthy Lodge, having initiated 5 new members in the last 3 years.  Our membership is spread around the country (a legacy from its time in London) with members travelling to Farnborough fom Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, Middlesex, Hertfordshire, Kent, West Sussex and Surrey.

The Lodge has an active Lodge of Instruction which also meets at Farnborough (see the homepage for dates/times).  We aim to make the LoI a 'proper' Lodge of Instruction rather than an excuse for rehearsals.  All members of the Lodge are invited to attend to improve their masonic knowledge.

The Lodge name is translated as 'In the manner of our forefathers' and is also the motto of the 2nd Parachute Regiment of the French Foreign Legion.  Our Lodge banner (shown below) was made for us in 1962 and shows masonic imagery including the two pillars and globes, the square and compasses and the 'all-seeing eye'.  The banner is displayed at every Lodge meeting.

Once a year the current Worshipful Master hosts a Ladies Festival, usually in April.  This is a chance for Lodge members and their partners to enjoy a formal banquet together.  It is also an occasion when non-masonic friends and guests can enjoy the warm More Majorum welcome.  Recent festivals have been held in Hayling Island, Shanklin, Arundel, Ascot, Bournemouth and Lewes.  Other Lodge social events have included a visit and tour around Freemasons Hall in London followed by a meal, and a buffet lunch at Christmas time sponsored by the Lodge of Instruction.

The Lodge is fast approaching its 50th anniversary and plans are underway to celebrate the achievement in style.  Whatever the future holds, More Majorum Lodge aims to maintain its reputation as a Lodge with extremely high standards of ritual and as one of the friendliest Lodges to visit.  If you are a Freemason and you would like to visit please contact us and we'd be delighted to receive you.  If you are interested in becoming a Freemason, this page might be of further interest to you.
